Channel grantee partner Women Enabled International (WEI) organized a UN Commission on the Status of Women Side Event on accountABILITY: Advancing the Rights of Historically Excluded Women and Girls on March 14th, 2018.

Moderator: Stephanie Ortoleva, President & Executive Director, Women Enabled International
Panelists:
Ferdous Ara Begum, Former Member of UN CEDAW Committee
Lizzie Kiama, This-Ability Consulting
Sahar Mouzami, OutRight Action International (also Channel grantee partner)
Suzannah Phillips, Deputy Director, Women Enabled International

Promoting the voices of historically excluded women and girls—including women with disabilities, older women, and LGBTI individuals—is essential to ensuring that international human rights standards, recommendations, and policies reflect their unique experiences.
Panelists discussed how effective engagement with the UN human rights system can elevate the voices of excluded populations to promote and protect their rights. This event also introduced Women Enabled International’s innovative accountABILITY Toolkit, a resource consisting of three briefing papers designed to facilitate effective civil society participation in the UN human rights system to advance women’s rights, hold States accountable to their human rights obligations, and ensure that the voices of all women and girls are being heard.

CART interpretation was provided and this event was open to all.
