Background & Goals: Adalet Budak works on community, women, and water safety issues from a gender perspective. Budak has worked for the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) in Turkey in their Social Department where she was involved in developing Multipurpose Community Centers for women and has worked on a number of other projects empowering women. Budak has won a variety of awards, including second prize at the Third World Water Forum in Kyoto, Japan for her Water Voice Project, and first place from the Junior Chamber International’s Outstanding Young Persons of the World for her contributions in the field of human rights. Budak focused on increasing her knowledge about agricultural development and water-based problems. She returned to Turkey in order to develop strategies and policies for agricultural projects from a gender sensitive perspective.
