Grantee name: CREA
Mission: CREA is a feminist organization based in the global South and led by women from the global South. CREA promotes, protects and advances women's human rights and the sexual rights of all people by strengthening feminist leadership, organizations and movements, influencing global and national advocacy, creating information, knowledge and scholarship, changing public attitudes and discourses, and addressing exclusion.
Since 2007 CREA has run the Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute (SGRI), a week-long course that bring activists from around the world together to examine the links between sexuality, rights, gender, and health and their interface with socio-cultural and legal issues. Participants critically analyze policy, research and program interventions using a rights-based approach.
The Feminist Leadership and Movement Building Institute (FLaMBI) is a week-long course designed to strengthen feminist leadership, strategies and collective power for social transformation in Africa. The institute is jointly convened by CREA and Akina Mama wa Afrika (since 2008) and combines reflection on the current political landscape as well as past organizing strategies for women's rights in Africa by using a trans-regional movement building approach.
